Barque Hill Social

 June 12, 2010

 Hello Neighbors,

Good morning to all you graduates of Barque Hill Association’s First Annual Social Soiree 101 class!  You guys all can give yourselves an “A” and many chose to stay well past the 8 pm bell to earn lots of extra credit, as well as perhaps a second cup of coffee this morning to sweep out those cobwebs to boot for their efforts. I know of at least one or two post-Tinks backyard chiminea burns that kept right on going into the wee hours as well, though this 50-something has to admit I was not one of them.

In all seriousness, on behalf of the maybe 65 of us who attended last night I want to thank Anne Merna and Rosemary Spurway for putting on such a nice event for us all to enjoy. The food was great, the fellowship was unparalleled and, I admit, nothing to find fault with from the barman either. Take a bow, Mesdames. Bravo. Good on ya.

So, for those of you who came out and made such a grand time of it, “hey neighbor, nice ta meetcha or great ta seeya!”  Stop by and say hi anytime. For those of you whom we missed and to whom I would say, “we missed you but you missed us too”, we hope to see you soon either at the Annual Picnic or the next such Social.

Rumor has it plans are underway for a Social 102 class – sometime later this fall? and it includes those tougher subjects like (1) how to balance food and drink in one hand while talking at full speed with your neighbor, (2) how to manage to make oneself heard over the din of 60 or 70 Barque Hill party animals in full cry without going completely hoarse or (3) how to improve lip syncing all the words of songs like Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison” the band played last night. This correspondent needs work in all those areas, plus more.

Anyway, what a blast, man. So this is Barque Hill neighborhood spirit, huh?  Wow.

 Warmly,

shl
