Don Jones of 11 Brigantine Circle passed away on June 16th, 2006.
The following is the obituary as it appeared in the Norwell Mariner on
June 22nd.
Donald Edward
Jones, 77, of Norwell, died June 16, 2006, at the New England Medical
Center in Boston.
The son of the
late Edward and Pearl Jones, he was born in Springfield, and graduated
from Springfield Technical High School. He entered the U.S. Naval
Academy at Annapolis, Md. for two and a half years, and graduated from
Amherst College in Amherst. He attended Boston University School of
Theology, and served his student ministry at the Methodist church in
Marlborough.
After ordination
he served as minister at the First Methodist Church in Framingham for 11
years. In 1967, Mr. Jones became a professor of philosophy, religion and
psychology at Dean Junior College.
An enthusiastic
sailor, he enjoyed hiking, swimming, jogging, and camping with his
family in state and national parks. An avid reader, Mr. Jones was
intrigued by the latest technology, and enjoyed listening to music on
his I-Pod.
In the past nine
years, his compromised physical abilities did not hinder his spirit of
adventure and positive outlook. Mr. Jones gave generously to many
charities and believed in reaching out to people in need across the
globe.
He leaves his
loving wife of 54 years, Patricia (Beale) Jones; his children, Timothy
Jones of Boston, Pamela J. Healy and her husband Peter of Norwell, and
Christopher A. Jones and his wife Lisa (Boucher) Jones of Natick; and
four grandchildren, Ben, Tim and Georgia Healy, and Sean.
A Memorial
Service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, June 24, at 2
p.m., in St. Luke Episcopal Church, Route 3A, Scituate. A committal
service for family members will be held at a later date in Mosswood
Cemetery, Cotuit. Arrangements by McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home,
Norwell.
In lieu of
flowers, blood donations may be made in his memory to the Red Cross, or
contributions to the South Shore Habitat for Humanity, 28 River St.,
Braintree, MA 02184, or the Outreach Ministries of St. Luke's Episcopal
Church, 465 First Parish Road, Scituate, MA 02066, or to Trinity Church,
Boston.
